Hello 👋
I decided to make this blog to document my southbound thru hike of the Pacific Crest Trail. My hope is that this will be a good way for friends/family to follow along with my hike, be fun for me to look back on afterwards, and also give me something to work on when I'm bored in my tent. My plan is to update this page with some pictures, my Strava map, and maybe a little paragraph each resupply (every 4-6 days).
If you're not familiar with thru hiking here's a pretty good intro Thru Hiking Basics & Tips | REI
The basic flow is I'll hike between 60-100 miles, stop in a town to resupply, and repeat that over and over until I've worked my way from the US/Canada border down to the US/Mexico border.
Gear + pack weight:
Below is a layout of all my gear. I didn't intend to share this picture when I took it so it's not the most aesthetically pleasing gear layout you'll see, but it works.
I'm not gonna do a whole gear list, it's a pretty typical lightweight backpacking setup. My base weight (weight of pack without food + water) is 13 lbs. With 6 days of food and 3 liters of water the pack will weigh about 30 lbs.
Food + resupply:
I prepared 4 boxes to mail myself for the Washington section of the trail. I chose to do this because the resupply options in those towns seemed a bit limited. After that though I should be able to get everything I need from the towns on the trail. As for what I'll be eating here's an example 6 day resupply:
Alright I think that's all I've got for now. I'm currently in the JFK airport omw to Seattle, I start hiking Monday July 7th!
